A new full-length trailer and official poster have finally arrived for Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring. Following in the same footsteps as Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers, The Bling Ring is another “teenagers gone wild” flick. Instead of committing crimes in neon bikinis, The Bling Ring steals from the rich and famous in Hollywood. Check out the new trailer and poster below.
Based on a true story, The Bling Ring centers on a group of celebrity-obsessed teenagers in Los Angeles who pulled off heists of celebrity homes between October 2008 and August 2009. The teenagers reportedly stole $3 million worth of possessions from likes of Paris Hilton, Orlando Bloom, Rachel Bilson, Lindsay Lohan, Megan Fox, and Audrina Patridge. The film follows the titular group from their time robbing houses to their eventual capture and infamy through the media. The narrative will hold a mirror to the obsessions of fame and celebrity culture.
Emma Watson leads the cast that consists of relatively unknown actors. “I don’t make the kind of movies that lend themselves to wide releases,” Sofia Coppola recently told in an interview with DGA Quarterly. While that may have been true at one time, I have a strong feeling that Sofia Coppola is going to reach a wider demographic with this film that promises to be stylishly energetic and full of angst.
The Bling Ring is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month before it arrives in theaters on June 14th. It’s time to party.
