Just yesterday, we got our first look at Christian Bale, Amy Adams, and Bradley Cooper with new hairstyles and in costume for David O. Russell’s American Hustle. Earlier today, Columbia Pictures has debuted the first trailer for the drama and it looks really good and unexpectedly crazy. The film features an outstanding cast that includes Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Louis C.K., Alessandro Nivola, Jack Huston, Michael Pena, and Robert De Niro. This is bound to get attention during the upcoming awards season and judging from this trailer, it’ll be easy to understand why. Check out the trailer below.
The film centers on an undercover sting operation known as ABSCAM, which was set up by a con artist (Bale) working with an out of control FBI agent (Cooper) along with his mistress and partner in crime (Adams) to bring down a series of corrupt public officials. Jennifer Lawrence, who recently won an Oscar for her performance in David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook, plays Bale’s unpredictable wife. The cast looks like they’re having a lot of fun by letting loose in their roles.
A fictional film set in the alluring world of one of the most stunning scandals to rock our nation, American Hustle tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that’s as dangerous as it is enchanting. Jeremy Renner is Carmine Polito, the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the con artists and Feds. Irving’s unpredictable wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down. Like David O. Russell’s previous films, American Hustle defies genre, hinging on raw emotion, and life and death stakes.
American Hustle opens in limited theaters on December 13th with a planned expansion on December 25th. What do you think of the trailer?
