Marvel has gone “quiet” since Avengers: Endgame dropped hard earlier this year, even though they followed it up with the conclusion to their latest Phase with Spider-Man: Far From Home.

They aren’t releasing any movies until next May, which brings us to Cate Shortland‘s Black Widow, featuring Scarlett Johansson as the rogue agent that eventually becomes an Avenger.

I think that Black Widow is an interesting project, because it takes what essentially was a side-Avenger character and beefs up the importance by giving her an entire film, whereas her buddy Hawkeye is getting his very own Disney+ original show.

It makes things doubly interesting if you have been following the character and where Endgame left her.

Is this Marvel’s opportunity to introduce us to yet another world that we didn’t know about that will eventually tie together with what we’ve already seen?

I’m not sure if I really even care to know the answer to that question, but I can say that I am slightly interested in getting to know more about Johansson’s Natasha, especially if that means Florence Pugh and David Harbour joining the MCU.

Also, IMDb lists Robert Downey Jr. as a cast member, so expect to see more of good ol’ Tony Stark.

What are your thoughts on the first trailer? It kicks things into high gear, feeling like a rogue spy action film ala Jason Bourne, but then it switches gears and feels very much like a Marvel movie by the time Harbour joins the mix.

It doesn’t look visually distinct at all and most of the action feels familiar and far from inventive, but maybe the story is the true kicker here?

We will have to wait a long time to find out as Black Widow doesn’t hit theaters until May of 2020.
