Like it or not, Spider-Man: Homecoming is a critical success and a box office achievement for both Sony and Marvel. The film might not be sweeping in the dough, like other MCU properties, but it’s making a solid chunk of coin, especially considering the character and his reboot nature.
Everybody involved seems to be happy with the outcome of Homecoming, which makes the discussion of director Jon Watts returning for the sequel not too surprising.
He did fine work and played well with the character and the property and I have no doubts that he will return to work on the untitled sequel.
I personally thought Watts did a great job capturing a younger Peter Parker, filled with teen angst and lots of energy, but his action sequences were severely lacking and mostly underwhelming in their construction and presentation.
I wouldn’t mind seeing someone else come in and play in the Spidey sandbox, but I also wouldn’t be completely against Watts taking another crack at the character.
Who would you like to see direct Spider-Man: Homecoming 2?
