It’s going to be a sad day for Muppet fans around the world. Co-writer and star of The Muppets, Jason Segel, has now confirmed (via Collider) that he will not be returning as a writer for The Muppets sequel. Of course we can’t leave out the possibility of a cameo appearance, but it looks like we can eliminate the chances of him starring in a sequel.
Here’s what he had to say:
“It’s true but it’s totally amicable. My goal was to bring The Muppets back and I did that leaving them in very good hands, my writing partner [Nicholas Stoller] and James Bobin the director. I did what I set out to do, and now I wanna pursue more human-related projects (laughs).”
I think that’s perfectly understandable. The Muppets took a lot out of him and he reached the goal he set out to achieve. So why return for a sequel, minus the fact that he’s great comedic talent. I liked The Muppets, but a sequel isn’t the first thing on my mind. I’m more interested in hearing about Segel’s future projects.
How about you?
