James Gunn Returning To Direct ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3’

James Gunn brought a lot of creativity and excitement to the Marvel universe with his wild space epic Guardians of the Galaxy. It is perhaps the best Marvel movie to date and the weirdest and most “out there”.

I’m hoping that he’s managed to recapture that magic in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which opens up in just a few short weeks. Early word is that the film is spectacular and a worthy sequel to an already almost perfect film.

It must be, because Gunn has just confirmed that he will be back for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

This is a very big deal, especially considering how much Marvel use to shuffle up its filmmakers from title to title. Marvel has been said to be hard to work for, because of their long game, which sometimes cripples an artist’s vision or approach.

Thor has had a different director in every outing and even the Iron Man and Captain America films had to swap directors at some point.

Heck, Edgar Wright left Ant-Man rather late in the game, yet the film still turned out to be decent minor Marvel material.

Gunn sticking around for an entire trilogy is impressive and speaks very much on the state of Marvel and their relationship with their filmmakers.

It’s also been said that Gunn could continue to have involvement with the characters or Marvel after his third film, because he’s so deeply invested into the characters and the world’s being built.

Those kind of statements make me excited to be a movie-lover.
