Hellboy is an interesting film property. Comic book creator Mike Mignola has recently went on record to confirm that they’re definitely rebooting the Hellboy franchise and that the R-rated reboot is going to feature Stranger Things‘ David Harbour as the titular red-horned bad ass.
What makes things more interesting is that The Descent director Neil Marshall will be the visionary behind the new film, which is a drastic change of pace from Hellboy and Hellboy II director Guillermo del Toro.
This is bittersweet news. On one hand, I’m all for an R-rated take on the character and I think that David Harbour could really benefit from such a starring role. On the other hand, it saddens me to know that del Toro and Mignola couldn’t come to an agreement on a third film.
Hellboy II left the series in an interesting place and I would have really loved to see Ron Perlman come back for one more outing.
Are you looking forward to a fresh take on the character or do you feel that they should have left it as-is?
