I’m a firm believer that Ruben Fleischer‘s Zombieland is still one of the most lean and mean zombie horror films to ever grace the screen. The first time I watched it I enjoyed the film, but repeat viewings made me essentially love it.
Fleischer’s direction, combined with the writing by Paul Wernick and Rhett Rheese got just enough right to make for a memorable horror comedy.
Also, Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin worked perfectly together.
Yet here we are, ten years later with Zombieland: Double Tap. I’ll admit that when I heard a sequel was coming I was mostly worried, because how are you going to capture that magic again, let alone ten years later?
But then it hit me and I watched the trailer and I must say, Double Tap seems to be hitting all of the right beats at the precise moments. Sure, this could be just a very well-done trailer, but I’m totally feeling the vibes that it’s putting off.
It looks similar to the first one, no doubt. But it also looks like a lot of fun, seeing what these characters have been up to and even seeing them interact with a group that is almost identical to them.
Is there enough material here to stretch it out past an hour-and-a-half? I sure hope so.
Zombieland: Double Tap hits theaters this fall.
