Matthew Vaughn did a really good thing when he helped revive the dying X-Men franchise with his prequel film First Class. Honestly, until then I was all but over the X-Men series and then Vaughn brought new life into old characters, which led way to James Mangold‘s much more dark and serious take with The Wolverine.
Now, I’m actively interested in the X-Men series again and yet I’m still crossed with the first trailer for Bryan Singer‘s X-Men: Days of Future Past. This one brings together characters/actors from the original trilogy with ones in the prequel and the result is either going to be a completely lopsided mess or something that finds that perfect balance.
Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen. James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Hugh Jackman and many more return to reprise their mutant roles in this time-traveling X-Men film that once again focuses on Wolverine as he goes back to try and change Professor X and Magneto.
I’m really hoping that Singer has learned from his previous X-Men mistakes and hopefully takes a page or two out of Vaughn and Mangold’s playbooks.
X-Men: Days of Future Past drops in May.
