After premiering this summer at the Cannes Film Festival, Sony Pictures Classics picked up the rights to Jim Jarmusch’s vampire romance Only Lovers Left Alive for distribution. Although an official release date hasn’t been set, it looks like the film will be making its way to theatres sooner rather than later as the first hypnotic trailer has been revealed. Check it out below.
Set against the romantic desolation of Detroit and Tangier, an underground musician (Tom Hiddleston), deeply depressed by the direction of human activities, reunites with his resilient and enigmatic lover (Tilda Swinton). Their love story has already endured several centuries at least, but their debauched idyll is soon disrupted by her wild and uncontrollable younger sister. Can these wise but fragile outsiders continue to survive as the modern world collapses around them?
Jim Jarmusch (Dead Man, Broken Flowers, The Limits of Control) is known for directing films that are a little out of the ordinary. Only Lovers Left Alive looks like it’ll be a perfect fit in the director’s unusual repertoire. This film in particular appears to be his most accessible film yet. Anton Yelchin, Mia Wasikowska, and John Hurt co-star.
As mentioned above, a release date hasn’t been set. Check back for more updates as they come our way.
