Only a few selected people got the opportunity see early footage of the new David O. Russell comedy/drama Silver Linings Playbook at the Cannes Film Festival this past May. The footage was shown by Harvey Weinstein to create a little buzz for what he hopes is a true Oscar contender. The trailer for the film premiered during the summer to give us a glimpse of the offbeat romance between two seemingly dysfunctional characters played by Bradley Cooper and Oscar nominated Jennifer Lawrence.
Judging from the trailer, it looks like Oscar nominated director David O. Russell is bringing back his comic sensibilities (ala Flirting With Disaster and I Heart Huckabees) with a solid cast that includes Robert De Niro, Chris Tucker, and Jacki Weaver. For those who have seen the trailer and anticipate it’s release, you can feast your eyes on the first official one sheet for the film.
Silver Linings Playbook, based on the novel written by Matthew Quick, tells the story of an ex-teacher (Bradley Cooper) who returns home after a brief stay at a mental institution. When he returns back to his parents home (Robert De Niro and Jacki Weaver), he starts a relationship with his young neighbor who has problems of her own (Jennifer Lawrence).
The comedy/drama is scheduled to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and is set to open nationwide on November 21st.
