The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene and Liberal Arts) is in final negotiations for the role of The Scarlet Witch in Joss Whedon’s highly anticipated sequel The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
It was previously reported that Saoirse Ronan was Whedon’s top choice for the role but apparently the actress passed on the opportunity. Kick-Ass 2 star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who appears with Elizabeth Olsen in next year’s Godzilla, has yet to be officially confirmed as The Scarlet Witch’s brother Quicksilver but the actor has been very vocal about the role.
The two characters will be among the biggest additions to the sequel, which focuses on the superhero team against the villainous robot Ultron. The Scarlet Witch will bring a bit more fantasy to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the character has the power to affect certain outcomes by altering probabilities.
The Avengers: Age of Ultron is expected to begin filming in March of next year. The sequel will be released on May 1st, 2015. Check back for more updates as they come our way.
