Briefly: It appears that Disney is working continuously hard to acquire most of the mega franchises in Hollywood. According to Variety, Walt Disney Studios and Paramount Pictures has finalized an agreement over rights to the Indiana Jones franchise. Paramount has owned the rights to the franchise since 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark. In this deal with the studio, Disney has acquired “distribution and marketing rights to future films.” This is in addition to retaining its current ownership rights when they bought out Lucasfilm in a multi-billon dollar deal late last year.
Disney has not officially announced a fifth Indiana Jones film, but with this new deal and Harrison Ford’s interest in returning for the titular role, it’s only a matter of time when a new Indiana Jones film will be announced. According to the report, this was the last hurdle for Disney so they can move forward. Make sure to check back for more updates as they come our way.
