Just last week, we reported that Oscar nominated actor Bradley Cooper was in early talks with Marvel to voice the gun-wielding Rocket Raccoon in Guardians of the Galaxy. Now it’s official. Marvel has announced that Bradley Cooper will voice Rocket Raccoon in the James Gunn-directed sci-fi adventure, which is currently in production.

Cooper joins a cast that already includes Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Benicio Del Toro, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Glenn Close, Karen Gillian, Djimon Hounsou, and John C. Reilly.

I never would’ve expected Bradley Cooper but leave it to Marvel to surprise us with unexpected casting choices that end up working. I’m looking forward to discovering what Cooper will bring to the role. Guardians of the Galaxy will arrive in theaters on August 1st, 2014. Make sure to check back for more updates as they come our way.
