Anthony’s Weekly Blu-Rays: July 5-11

This week is a very, very boring week when it comes to new releases. Most people won’t even bother look into buying new releases this week, as there are only two of them. I haven’t seen either one of them so I have no personal opinion when it comes to these. However I have heard some really good things about them. I do plan on doing a blind buy on one of them, just because I can.

Starting off this week’s new releases we have 13 Assassins. This movie takes place at the end of Japan’s feudal era, following a group of unemployed samurai. These samurai are then enlisted in a suicide mission to bring down an evil lord and to prevent him from ascending to the throne. If he reaches the throne he will plunge the country into a war torn future.

13 Assassins is currently sitting with a certified fresh rating of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and also a 7.9 on IMDB. I plan on reviewing this later today, so make sure to check back for the review. Like I stated before, I haven’t seen this movie but I’ve heard many good things. I’m excited for this one even though it will be a blind buy. It looks like 13 Assassins is being released with Blu-ray and a downloadable Digital Copy in a nicely packaged slipcover.

Next on the agenda is Hobo with a Shotgun. If you haven’t seen this one, like myself, you can check out Jeremy’s review on the movie. I remember him saying that he really liked it and he plans on getting it very shortly. Hobo with a Shotgun follows a homeless vigilante who takes it upon himself to deliver justice in his town. He does everything he can to blow crooked cops, pedophile Santas, and others away with a pump-action shotgun.

Hobo with a Shotgun was also given a certified fresh rating of 70% on Rotten Tomatoes while it is sitting with a 6.5/10 on IMDB. After reading Jeremy’s review and listening to him talk about it, I’m pretty excited to see it for myself. It definitely sounds like a movie that is way over the top. Sounds bloody and over the top. Like 13 Assassins, Hobo with a Shotgun is being released with a Blu-ray and a downloadable Digital Copy in a slipcover package.

Well there you have it, the new releases of the week that really matter. If you care to check out other ones that I’ve never heard of feel free to do so. They are; Of God and Men and Wake Wood. Like I said, the ones that matter are above. Check ’em out. Next week we have four new releases. Should be an alright week.
