Annapurna Pictures is probably the hottest production company as far as independent films are concerned. Owner Megan Ellison is responsible for funding such recent greats, like Spring Breakers, The Master, Killing Them Softly, Zero Dark Thirty, American Hustle and many others.
She was locked in to help bring the upcoming reboot Terminator: Genesis to the big screen, but now it looks like she’s stepped back and accepted an executive producer credit, while her brother David and his company Skydance Productions takes care of the rest.
Skydance helped bring the Star Trek reboot to theaters, plus Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, World War Z and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. The big-budget blockbuster action film company definitely fits in line more with the Terminator franchise than Megan’s Annapurna, so none of this really should come across as alarming or surprising.
It actually makes much more sense.
Paramount is still helping out with the funding for the film, which is set to star Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke and Arnold Schwarzenegger, with Thor: The Dark World‘s Alan Taylor directing.
