6 Films To Keep You On The Edge Of Your Seat This Halloween

With everything from kids’ snacks to casino games celebrating the joys of Halloween, what better way to accompany spooky consumerism than with one of these failsafe cinematic shockers!

Halloween

Perhaps the ultimate movie for this time of year is John Carpenter’s 1978 classic, Halloween. This low-budget shocker set the action in a typically mundane town in the American Midwest as Jamie Lee Curtis’ character is stalked by a psychopathic killer. Although it may not provide a high kill count, it’s inspired a series of sequels of varying quality that continues with Carpenter returning to help create the tenth instalment of this horror classic.

Bram Stoker’s Dracula

And what’s Halloween without a visit from Dracula. This fanged figure was given his plushest outing yet in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1992 movie that saw Gary Oldman’s vampiric character wreaking havoc as he sought to be reunited with his lost love. And with such themes continuing to play a part in the Immortal Slots game at the Lucky Nugget Casino website, it’s clear that when love is bundled with horror, it makes for a dramatic and chilling spectacle!

The Shining

But it’s when you’re alone that things really get spooky. And Jack Nicholson’s descent into madness as the caretaker of a weird hotel in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining shows that our imagination can definitely get the better of us. With plenty of iconic scenes and instantly quotable lines, it’s another warning about the perils of writer’s block!

The Blair Witch Project

This revolutionary movie once again proved that horror doesn’t need a big budget to scare us senseless. Thanks to an innovative use of found footage and a great viral campaign that made full use of the fledgling internet technologies, The Blair Witch Project became a movie that everybody had to see in 1999.

Paranormal Activity

Hollywood managed to prove again that there’s few things more scary than a suburban American house with this horror hit from 2007. Although many of the themes of sinister activity and found footage have become de rigueur in the well-established horror genre, Paranormal Activity got it right in a way that made it one of the must-see horror films of recent years.

It Follows

And finally 2014’s It Follows shows us how horror can survive to the present day. With a great storyline that played on fears of sexually-transmitted diseases, it reinvigorated the horror movie scene and revealed how it’s not just mobile casino games that can give us some spooky thrills this Halloween!
